DRINKING WATER PROJECT
S.E.E.D.S. has built water delivery systems for 5 villages in Nepal and begins construction of a system for 650 villagers in early 2006 in Chitlaing

This holding tank was designed and built entirely by Nepalis with financial assistance only from SEEDS.

One of the Tamang families that will have access to clean, running water - no more two mile hikes to fetch a jug of water!

With the assistance of SEEDS, a third village in the Rasua district has completed construction of a water delivery system. Each system services approximately 200 people. The villagers have learned how to properly service and maintain these systems.

Results have been remarkable - the ability to grow vegetables year round has resulted in the diversification of crop production. Women can be more attentive to their children since the day is no longer filled with the task of fetching water.

Each village, with SEEDS financing, has also built composting toilets – one for every household.

As part of SEEDS efforts to provide health and education services, we have also provided funding for school improvements and teacher salaries.

After a recent inspection, the Minister of Social Welfare proclaimed SEEDS to be the most effective NGO working in this region of Nepal. Our construction costs are a fraction of other similar projects and, because of the involvement of the recipients in the planning and construction phases, our projects are fully sustainable.

In June 1999. SEEDS completed the construction of a drinking water project that will benefit two hundred Tamangs in the Rasua District. Local villagers volunteered their labor for this project. In a joint effort, the villagers and SEEDS built this system for one third the amount the Nepalese government pays for similar projects.

This entire project was conceived, designed and built by Nepalis. The project will be maintained by the local people, with just the funding by SEEDS. This projects fulfils the goal of aiding the Nepalis become self sufficient.

The local women no longer have to trudge two miles up and down hills to fetch water for their families!!
